By experimenting this way, the impressionists were doing much more than simply trying to replicate reality: they were analyzing the area between the subject of a piece of art, and the eye of the viewer. They were exploring just what makes ripples on water, with light bouncing of them, glimmer the way they do. They analyzed what collection of colors make up the shadow of an object to give it dimension, and black wasn’t one of those colors.
I usually use black to contrast with other colors. Though lately, I'm more into dark grey and dark blue. However, this article is making me rethink how to combine colors for logos and even my knitting and crocheting.
I guess it's a matter of learning how to make other colors stand out and having a balance about it.
