Who said Pinky Street dolls are just about being cute? :P Rie was with me the whole day today and she will still be with me tomorrow when I listen to sessions on Web 2.0 technologies.

New Pinkies in the house: Reina and Super Lovers Tamae

June 15th, 2008 by clair

Reina and SL Tamae join my Pinky Street girls

At long last, after putting dibs on them, I got Reina and Super Lovers Tamae from Rotch! I met her at Toy Con and I also picked up Risa for Marj.

I wasn’t really thinking about getting Reina because there’s a Reina in yukata and I wanted to get that Pinky more than I wanted to get Reina. However, I need her face and hair for something. And I wanted to make my sister’s Akito wear a matching orange jacket for his pants. I don’t want to see him in the straight jacket all the time, you know. As for SL Tamae, she’s really cute. I wish I could buy all the Super Lovers Pinky Street dolls but I just got my Aya and paid for the two other Haruhi pinkies, Yuki Nagato and Tsuruya-san.

I am loving the SL Tamae a lot. ♥ I am bringing her to work tomorrow, as well as Tamae. So the four Pinkies who will accompany me to work are: Rui, SL Tamae, Tamae and Reina. :D

Anyhow, I had fun taking pictures of the new girls in my sister’s room, against the manga and books on her more organized shelf.

SL Tamae and her shadow

Reina and her shadow

Both pictures show each Pinky Street doll with her shadow. :) Reina is going to be named Rylee while SL Tamae will be called Tanya. She and Tami are twin sisters. ^_^ But I could still tell them apart because Tami has the thicker outline around her eyes.

Some photos from ToyCon 2008

June 15th, 2008 by clair

So many people, so many toys, so little time! I wish I was there in Megamall earlier so I could have seen if there was anyone selling Re-ment. Anyhow, I picked up two of my new Pinkies from Rotch! She was there around the time my sister and our friends were just about to enter the hall so it was great timing.

On to the pictures:
"I am prettier than you!"
Yoko Kurama in a photo op with a girl in maid cosplay. Not sure of the character she’s cosplaying. Gomen. ^^;;
Yoko Kurama - oh so pretty!
Yoko Kurama in a shot I really liked a lot.
Soul Eater cosplayers

Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Pullips and their owners. I want a Pullip too!
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Sachiko! ♥ Kaoko spotted me earlier than this shot. When I saw her later that day I just had to take a picture of Sachiko.
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Eureka 7 cosplayers!!! ♥ I love Eureka 7 and so I just had to follow these girls and take their photos. Anemone and Eureka without Dominic and Renton. I would have liked to see Renton and Dominic too!
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
My sister and her BIG FLUFFY PIYOPIYO PLUSHIE FTW!!!!!!!!! Of course, she really had to buy this plushie. She couldn’t resist. And it was cheap too! It was just 350pesos.
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Shaider and Ultraman :D

Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Not sure about the anime/game/manga they’re from but they look cute ne?

Random photos I took simply because I liked what they were wearing:
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)
Toy Con 2008 (June 14)

For more of the Toy Con pics I took, you could check them out in my Flickr photo set of ToyCon 2008. :)

I regret the following about the ToyCon though:

  1. There is no Kalye Pinky booth :(
  2. I wasn’t there early enough to check if there were Re-ment stuff for sale.
  3. I didn’t buy a Manikako doll kit. :( :( :( But Sean that his cousin ran that booth and he’d give word about my interest!
  4. I didn’t see Stikfas :(I suppose there were Stikfas there but because of the crowd, I didn’t see any.
  5. I didn’t bring my other officemates along with me because they’d enjoy seeing all those cosplays and toys.
  6. I didn’t see Kel and Sean :(

Things I am happy about yesterday’s ToyCon:

  1. I got a 2oz Sculpey Premo pack for testing.
  2. My sister got a cute Piyopiyo
  3. We saw lots of cute plushies!!!!! My eyes were checking them out!
  4. I ran into some of my online contacts and a few RL buddies.
  5. I saw a booth showcasing the works of Alfredo Alcala.
  6. I saw HardGay and his bouncers ;)

Maybe next year? I suppose there’d be better stuff! And I’d watch out for them :D

Straw hat

June 13th, 2008 by clair

Straw hat decoration attempt #2

Materials:
straw hat
crimson wide ribbon - shiny, gauzy
crimson not-so-wide ribbon - opaque, satin
white lace
synthetic flower
thread
needle

I basically just decorated a straw hat. I had to cut up the gauzy ribbon so that it will go around the hat. Then I sewed it up so that it will be a band. I added white lace to the band. After that I made a bow with the gauzy ribbon and pinned it to the band using the flower. I cut two ribbons so that I could sew them to the inner part of the hat. The ribbons will be used to tie it under the wearer’s chin or the nape.

It’s so fun decorating hats! I sewed up the stuff by hand :)

Mishka travels with JM

June 11th, 2008 by clair

JM’s currently in LA. Previously he was in New Jersey and he’s been to New York too. He has some pictures on Flickr while travelling with Mishka (PK018). :D

Mishka at the station Standing outside I wants!

And of course, JM and Mishka have a picture together. :) But Mishka is just so small ^^;;

JM and Mishka :)

I envy Mishka for having the opportunity to travel with JM but it’s easier for her to travel with someone as she could really fit in the bag, literally. ^^;; I haven’t been able to travel except one trip to Mindanao when I was 9 and some trips to Baguio and Tagaytay and field trips. Outside the country? Nope. Not even once. Mishka beat me to it. XDDD

Order stuff from Japan via Sashimi Deshou~

June 3rd, 2008 by clair

I like Japanese things: Pinky:St dolls, bento boxes, manga, craft magazines, etc. One of my friends and her friend has set up an online business for people like me. Though of course, I didn’t order Pinkies anymore because I have HLJ for that. As for magazines, I thought it would be great to try out their service. They already have my copy of the Gothic and Lolita Bible on hold and have yet to bug them about delivery costs if I go by Kokubin just to be sure because of the weight of the mook/magazine/book. If you’re getting curious, check out their blog on livejournal called Sashimi Deshou.

Mangaholix 2008

June 1st, 2008 by clair

I was in Mangaholix last night after meeting my friend Renee in Bo’s Coffee. (We fangirled over L’arc en Ciel before I checked out the cosplays and stuff inside the convention hall! Hah!) Even Rie (my Pinky) was fangirling before the con…

Rie and Natsumi with Renee's Hydepod

Anyhow, on to the pictures from Mangaholix. I only got pictures of people walking around and those who were having photo-ops with people using awesome DSLRs.

Jac Ting Lim was there! Asuka Picture 255 Picture 258

Rozen Maiden group shot Bleach group One Piece + Bleach group

Not that much pictures. In any case I must add that I loved a particular Lolita outfit:

Picture 268

I am not sure if her dress is branded but it looks it. Anyhow, I was too shy to ask. I just had to take her picture even if her headpiece was already off her head. I think the rose just made her look even prettier.

Other high points of the event: Urbandub had 4 songs. They played towards the announcement of winners. Awesome! I got the autographs of Lalay and Gabby of Urbandub. Ureshii~! I wish JM was there because he’s the one who enjoys their music than myself.

I’d like to cosplay again one of these days. Waah~! I had fun in Mangaholix and will love to go to another con one of these days. :)

Capture the flag - digitally!

June 1st, 2008 by clair

A photo contest is running on technogra.ph and it’s in time for Independence Day.

The rules:

(by) June 11, Philippine time (deadline of submission), email a photo of the Philippine flag to editor -at- technogra.ph (replaced “-at-” with “@”) with the following details:

* Name
* Website (if any)
* Where the photo was taken
* A brief description of the photo

Your photo submission must be in .JPG format, with a width of 540 pixels. It doesn’t have to be a new photo; it can be a scan of an old black-and-white photo for instance.

Unfortunately, we can only open this contest to residents of Metro Manila, Philippines, as Fully Booked only has branches in said area.
Choosing the Winner

We will choose the winning entry based on its quality and how well it presents our national flag. Again, any entries received after 10:00 PM, June 11, 2008 (Philippine time) will not be accepted.

The winner will have their photo published on Technograph on June 12, 2008, as part of its celebration of Philippine Independence, and will receive the gift certificate via free delivery.

It’s great to get inspired with photos of the Philippine flag so that we could get reminded of how great it is to be Filipinos. :)

Currently watching: Zettai Kareshi and Last Friends

May 27th, 2008 by clair

The two j-dramas are quite different from each other but I download the fansubs regularly. (Love you, SARS-fansubs! And Kioku too! :D )

It’s Rjene who told me about Zettai Kareshi. It’s based on a Yuu Watase manga which I saw in one of the copies of Shojo Beat, IIRC. It’s amusing how Riiko, a temp at a company, has managed to purchase a robot as her perfect boyfriend. There’s this love-hate relationship between her and the robot which she named Night. It’s more of love for her from the robot and her loving and hating Night. There’s also this building attraction between Riiko and her boss Soshi and so it is now a love triangle among the three of them. I like watching it because it questions the perceptions of what a robot is and what is important in a relationship. Also, there are pastries in the story too because Asamoto (the company where Riiko is a temp) is making them and selling them.

Last Friends was mentioned in a friend’s LJ and so I had to compulsion to watch it because it raises the issues such as domestic violence, homosexuality and other personal issues people could relate with. In contrast to Zettai Kareshi, Last Friends is quite realistic and serious. I’ve only seen two episodes and I have this feeling that it will have such a tragic ending, judging from the opening theme and the sequences of events. I just started episode three a while back (but had to stop because I had to do something) and I have this sneaky feeling that I’d probably cry at the end of it. I don’t know yet but the feeling is there.

J-dramas are short, thankfully. So after ten to twelve episodes, of each series, I’d be watching yet another set of J-dramas. Maybe something that would give me a break from all this madness around me.

Why I still blog

May 27th, 2008 by clair

I currently blog for more personal reasons. I used to blog a lot because of what I learned and felt like sharing. Now it’s more for capturing certain moments in my life and remembering them.

The Internet is full of blogs about all sorts of topics. I am not sure if every niche has been filled. But I wonder if too many blogs just add to the noise and filters like RSS Readers (which give recommendations, etc.) are getting saturated by so much content.

I also blog because I need to interact, somehow. Even on a relatively passive manner, I must interact with others. Over the past how many months, I’ve become more introverted than ever (even though some of you might not believe it). As such, this blog as well as my food blog and my LJ keep the rest of the world in the know.

There’s also my Linux blog on b5. I like blogging there because I know what it’s like to be a new Linux user and I still feel it sometimes. I get some emails correcting my posts or feedback that they have interesting ideas to share and it’s a learning experience for me. It’s not easy to maintain several blogs but it is still fun.

And I still have some personal projects which I need to blog about. Someday soon, I know I will. :) That’s another reason for blogging. Blogs enable people to give feedback even if you don’t personally know them.
