Some of my recent posts on New Linux User which might be useful

If you’re looking for free audiobooks which are DRM-free try LibriVox. They’re free and you could get them in ogg or mp3 format.

I also found it interesting to use sonar for managing the laptop’s power. It is interesting because it uses the mic and speakers of your laptop. Nifty right?

And I agree that the new features of Mandriva 2010 are tempting me to go back to Mandrake/Mandriva. It’s just that I find it easier to look for Ubuntu guides, etc.

I am still a bit of a nerd so yeah, bear with it. XD At the very least you will learn something new if you click those links. ;)

Geekery again

Been tweaking my netbook, Westley after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04/Jaunty Jackalope. I’ve been up all night because I’ve been too hyper to sleep. It feels soooo great to just have everything running the way I wanted it to do so :D I even have LED for wifi working after that install of a package needed for it. Even my audio seems to be better. Haha! I love you Ubuntu! :D

Aside from that, I am back on to Emacs. I even got a mail client up and running but of course, JM helped me set it up so I could send emails. He’s so smart and patient because it wasn’t easy configuring it but he stayed late one night just to figure out what was going wrong with the mail client. So nice, right? <3

One more thing: I just discovered Newsbeuter! I love it! Reading from the terminal isn’t bad at all. :D I will write more about my (mis)adventures with them some time this week.

And well, I still owe you guys a post re: Shizen Orchestra.

Because using Linux is so cool

  • I don’t have to resize the windows in Openbox when I am moving them from one screen to another on extended monitor setup.
  • There’s apt as a package manager so most of the software I need is downloadable right away — well, as long as the internet access wherever I am is fairly good.
  • I could try recovering data with a Linux live CD!
  • If so needed, Linux has fantastic distros to choose from. It could have all the apps you need and even more.
  • Linux comes in free dvds, cds and downloads:D And I could just keep sharing them.
  • I can choose to switch to another Linux distro and not have much trouble adjusting to it.
  • We can has penguin mascot! XD
  • There are some great deals in terms of UMPCs now. And they run Linux ;)

I might just be biased but, srsly, I still think that Linux is one of the coolest things I’ve encountered in my life. Along with Pinky:St dolls, poi, Japanese fashion and cooking. :D
